The Timeless Threat of Rats

It matters little where you live, whether you are in the countryside or the middle of a town or city. Rats can be a problem in any area. Indeed, you may have read some news stories relating to giant rats seen in various areas. Not only are they frightening to see, they are hazardous to health too. You never know what kinds of diseases they could be carrying around with them. They are enthusiastic breeders too, which means they could be increasing in numbers even as you are reading this.

The period from September to March can be particularly problematic with regard to rats. This is because the weather gets colder, damper and generally more miserable. Rats may be a problem but they are certainly very smart. They will do all they can to find shelter at this time of year in particular. They will move closer to any building they see, and if they can get inside, so much the better. They don’t care that people will live or work there. All they are focused on is the need to stay warm and dry, and to protect their offspring.

So every building, from a farm building to an industrial unit, and a house to an office, could be at risk from rat problems during the winter months. That includes your property, so it makes sense to do everything you can to ensure they cannot get in.

Prevention is definitely better than cure in this respect. That means you should focus on reducing the opportunities they have to get inside your building in the first place. Look from room to room, checking for possible entry points. Watch out for any water leaks too. If the rats know they have access to a source of water, they have every reason to keep coming back.

Many people won’t want to set traps to catch the rats – much less deal with the dead rats when they catch them. That’s why it is a good idea to seek professional help if you suspect you have a rat problem at work or at home. The professionals will have access to the best and most efficient equipment, and they’ll have the knowledge required to get rid of the problem as quickly as possible too.

So if you think you might have a problem like this, seek help as soon as you can.
