Wasps in Dundee

Yet another wasp nest removed in a shed in Dundee today. We have visited to eradicate wasp nests in Dundee many times so far this year, mostly in places where it is easier to spot the first signs of wasp nest activity such as in sheds, in holes in walls where security lights, cabling and piping have left a gap and  at windows, doors and porches. We’ve even had to remove wasp nests from inside covers on BBQs and inside garden parasols that got used for the first time in the lovely May weather that we had: a bit of a shock to find the wasps got there first!

Unfortunately, there will be lots more wasp nests developing in more hidden places that haven’t been spotted yet, such as wasp nests in roofs and in attics so we’ll be around and about Dundee for wasp nest eradication and removal a lot more this summer.

Queen wasps hibernate over the winter, tucked away in roof spaces and other hidey holes, so freezing temperatures can kill them before they get a chance to wake from hibernation and build a new wasp nest the next summer. Dundee is at sea level and so the temperatures over the winter don’t get as cold as they do in up the hills, which means that more queen wasps survive the winter and build wasp nests.  Perhaps this is why Dundee seems to get more wasp problems.

If you find a wasp nest or see signs of wasp activity then it is best to get it investigated, and get the wasp nest treated and eradicated. Otherwise it will develop into a bigger nest with many more wasps in and become dangerous: more wasps mean more stings! Call us if you think you have a wasp problem or need wasp nest removal.
