Are you hearing noises in the attic and walls at night?

Are you hearing noises in the attic and walls at night? The noises are a bit unnerving aren’t they! This is a common pest problem at this time of year.

Rodent vermin are normally the cause of noises in the roof and walls at night. This is because mice and rats are nocturnal, sleeping in the day and running around looking for food when it is dark.

Rodent vermin move indoors in autumn to get shelter from the bad weather and they will stay inside all winter. Mice are the commonest pests that we find making noises in the house and loft. They are very small, weighing only 25gm, and have a very flexible body, so they can squeeze in though gaps as small as 6mm. They can tunnel under a wall too, and even climb up to the eaves. Rats are much bigger, weighing 500gm or even more, so they need a larger gap to get in through but they can still dig in under a house.

Mouse infestations and rat infestations develop when the rodent vermin get inside. Rodent vermin infest a property by climbing up and down inside walls, under floors and across ceilings and in attics, making those tell-tale noises in the roof and walls, and even noises under the floor, as they move around.

Do not ignore noises in the walls and attic or under the floor.  A rat infestation or mouse infestation is dangerous and unhealthy because the vermin chew electric wires and water pipes, as well leaving droppings and urine in kitchens and cupboards and on floors.  We’ve done rodent vermin control in Perth & Kinross after chewed dish-washer pipes flooded a cottage and rat control and mouse control in Dundee for damaged alarms and freezer cables.
