Can You Hear Noises in Your Loft Space?

How often do you go up into your loft space? Most people have access to their loft space via a ladder and a loft hatch, but rarely go up there unless they need to grab the Christmas tree and decorations to bring down for the festive season.

Unfortunately, this is the same time of year you could become aware of noises coming from your loft space. We all know mice can get inside any property, especially when seeking shelter from colder weather. However, just as mice look for sources of food wherever they can get them, so other animals will seek out mice as their own source of food.

This includes stoats and weasels. Most people can’t easily tell the difference between the two, but really, this is the least of your problems if you discover you’ve got some of the pesky things in your attic over the winter months. From November right through until March, they’ll think nothing of getting into a loft space if they are on the hunt for food in the shape of mice.

It’s a good idea to keep a close eye on your loft space, so you can be aware of any signs you might have furry intruders up there. While you might think they are doing you a favour by getting rid of any mice that could be in your property, you certainly won’t want stoats and/or weasels running around up there instead.

Some parts of the country won’t be that prone to seeing these animals around. However, if you are in rural Scotland you may have an increased chance of being affected by them. If you have spotted droppings in your attic or you suspect you might have seen either a stoat or a weasel in or near your home, you should get in touch to see whether we can help.

In some cases, if the animal is on your property but is not causing any problems, a policy of watch, wait and see is usually best. However, it is a very different matter entirely if you find you have them in your roof space. They are perfectly able to give birth to babies and rear them, all the while using your house rent-free!
